1. The order. Memorandum M-2025-029 is a BSP circular from August 2025, sent to every institution under its supervision. Its topic: pausing gambling links reached from inside payment apps and sites.
2. The deadline. The memo gave institutions 48 hours to remove links. Even a plain redirect from the app to a gambling site is covered.
3. The switch-off. From 16 August 2025, GCash stopped every top-up and payout for licensed gaming. Its Games tab disappeared on that date as well.
4. The lobby. GOGOJILI’s ticker, promotion page and deposit tutorial all name Maya. No pre-login screen lists GCash as a deposit rail.

The BSP gave its reason in the memo itself: a surge in online gambling transactions and public worry about what it does to household finances.

Old GCash Gaming Balance: the 4-Step Lane

Some players still had pesos in a gaming wallet when the switch-off came. GCash’s Help Center gives one route out.

1. Note which gaming merchant held the balance.
2. Contact that merchant directly. GCash sends you there rather than handling it.
3. Cash out on the merchant’s own pages, through its channels.
4. Expect the merchant’s minimum, not a GCash one: GCash says the merchant sets it.

GCash Casino Searches and What GCash Still Handles

The search “gcash casino” still draws about 22,200 searches a month. Most of them are people hoping for the pre-2025 shortcut. It is gone.

GCash says so plainly: “GCash is not a gaming app.” Its wallet still works for everything else, so its limits still matter for your own transfers.

The ladder took effect on 1 October 2026, per GCash’s limits article. Hit a limit and that service stops. It restarts when the next month begins on the 1st, or earlier if you upgrade.

Two more GCash rules worth knowing:

• Basic users cannot send money at all. They can only receive.
• A transfer from GCash to a bank goes over InstaPay and costs PHP 10 each.
